FLORENCE, Wis. - An Iron Mountain man has been charged with felony drug possession following a Nov. 8 vehicle stop in Florence.
Brian L. Krause, 34, faces one felony count of possession of a controlled substance-fourth offense.
If convicted, Krause could spend up to three years and six months in prison.
He is scheduled for a preliminary examination in Florence County Court on Dec. 6.
According to the criminal complaint in the case, deputies from the Florence County Sheriff's Department pulled over a vehicle on U.S. 2 near Westrin Road on Nov. 8. They had received an anonymous tip that a female who had been wanted for questioning was in the vehicle.
Deputies attempted to identify each person in the vehicle, but one man, later identified as Krause, allegedly claimed that he did not have a photo ID.
While questioning Krause, deputies allegedly found several synthetic stimulants, popularly known as "bath salts" or "plant food," in his pockets.
These substances contain MDPV, which was classified as a controlled substance in Wisconsin this year.
In addition, a background check revealed that Krause had been convicted of two drug offenses in 2010 and one drug offense in 1999.
