GARDEN - An ice fisherman was severely injured after being struck by a snowmobile on Garden Bay Saturday afternoon.

Deputies from the Delta County Sheriff's Office were dispatched to Garden Bay in Garden for a report of 21-year-old man being struck by a snowmobile at approximately 1 p.m. Saturday.

According to a press release issued by Delta County Sheriff Gary A. Ballweg, the victim was ice fishing on the bay near Ansells Point when a snowmobile came dangerously close to a tip-up set out by the victim, as well as the victim himself.

The victim then flagged the snowmobile down.

The snowmobile came back and an argument ensued with the suspect ultimately accelerating toward the victim, Ballweg said. The victim was then struck by the snowmobile causing severe injuries.

Ballweg said the snowmobile then fled the scene.

A person who had been fishing with the victim seated in a vehicle on the ice near him flagged a passer-by down. The passer-by rendered aid

and transported the victim to shore.

The victim was then transported to Schoolcraft Memorial Hospital then Marquette General Hospital for treatment.

Ballweg said the victim was listed in stable condition on Sunday.

Deputies have suspects in the case, and are looking for a 32-year-old male from Delta County.

There may be other suspects. The investigation is ongoing.

Anyone with information about the incident is encouraged to contact the Delta County Sheriff's Department.
