Livio Spigarelli

IRON MOUNTAIN - Livio "Lee" Spigarelli, 87, of Iron Mountain passed away on Saturday, Feb. 11, 2012 at his home.

He was born on Aug. 18, 1924, in Iron Mountain, son of the late Joseph and Serafina (Angeli) Spigarelli. He attended the Iron Mountain Schools graduating from Iron Mountain High School. He went on to attend Michigan State University.

Lee enlisted in the United States Army seeing action during World War II with the 820th Tank Destroyer Battalion. He was a Prisoner of War for eight months in Germany for which he received the Purple Heart.

Lee married Fern Eisemann on Aug. 24, 1946, at the Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in Iron Mountain, and she preceded him in death on April 29, 2010. He worked for the Dickinson County Road Commission, and retired after 33 years as superintendent. He was a member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars, the Uren-Cooper-Johnson American Legion Post 50, and the Order of the Purple Heart Chapter 1879. Lee was an avid golfer, and loved hunting and fishing at the camp in Sagola.

Lee is survived by one brother, Abraham (Virginia) Spigarelli of Iron Mountain; nieces and nephews, Joe (Mary) Spigarelli of Iron Mountain, Jean (Lenny) Krenik of Iron Mountain, Greg (Sally) Spigarelli, Diana (Gary) Wink of Colorado, Julia Spigarelli of Colorado, Dennis (Gail) Spigarelli of Iron Mountain, Debra (Dan) Lomax of Iron Mountain, and Danny (Sandy Oman) Spigarelli of Kingsford; and many great-nieces and great-nephews

He was preceded in death by three brothers, Primo, Armond, and John Spigarelli.

Visitation will be Tuesday from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the Erickson-Rochon & Nash Funeral Home in Iron Mountain.

The funeral service will follow at 1 p.m. at the funeral home. Fr. Joseph Gouin will officiate. Burial will be in Iron Mountain Cemetery Park.

Pallbearers will be Dan Spigarelli, Dennis Spigarelli, Dan Lomax, Jeff Tabat, Gary Sparpana, and John Spigarelli.

The Uren-Cooper-Johnson American Legion Post 50 along with the Order of the Purple Heart will accord full military honors.
