U.P. man wounded in camp shooting

NEGAUNEE - A 38-year-old Marquette man was hospitalized at Marquette General Hospital on Saturday after suffering a gunshot wound to his abdomen, according to state police at the Negaunee post.

The shooting occurred at a camp on Brown Deer Road in Powell Township and appears to have been accidental, troopers said.

Troopers were dispatched to the hospital at 1:20 a.m. (Eastern time) Saturday after being informed of the shooting.

Names were being withheld pending further investigation.


The victim's name is Eric Thomas, 37, of Marquette, State Police said. He is listed in stable condition at Marquette General Hospital. No foul play is suspected.
