MERRIMAN - The Sporting Clays League at United Sportsmen Inc. in Merriman will begin Saturday, May 19.
The league continues for 10 consecutive weeks. Participants may shoot any Saturday (9 a.m. and lunch available at noon) or Tuesday (2 p.m. till dark).
Participants may also shoot up to two weeks ahead and make up as many as three weeks in arrears.
Teams consist of a minimum of three and a maximum of six shooters. Only the top three scores from each team will be counted each week and all scores will be handicapped.
Cost is $25 per team, plus regular shooting fees for each shooter. Each shooter must join the club, for which the annual membership is $30 per family. Membership includes access to the club's indoor rifle/pistol shooting range.
This year, there will also be a drawing for a Barnett Qual 400 Crossbow with case - a $500 value. All shooters who complete the 10-week league will be eligible for the drawing.
The course is a 10-station, 50-target course. All throwers are automatic so that once a shooter has been introduced to the course and safety rules, they may shoot the course unassisted.
Each of the 10 stations has two different shooting stands and five shooting menus with combinations of single, following pairs, report pairs and true pairs. The course offers a full range of relatively easy to progressively more difficult presentations.
The league will involve shooting each of the five courses twice.
There is never a shortage of veteran shooters anxious to share their expertise.
Sign up at the club house Saturday mornings or call Ted at (906) 282-2422.
