NORWAY - As a result of community effort, the Norway Spring Classic Race has been able to continue for 32 years. The enthusiastic response this year allowed the Norway Spring Classic, under the direction of Tony Adams, to give the Norway High School Youth Advisory Committee (YAC) a check for $1,000 in appreciation of the hard work and hours spent preparing for the race to make this event a success.
The Norway Youth Advisory Committee (YAC) is made up Norway High School students in grades 9-12 who are involved in gathering community information, awarding grant funds, and evaluating projects as well as community service.
This donation will help fund their community service projects throughout the 2012-2013 school year.
In the past, they have sponsored projects such as a 2008 mock accident and a 2011 mock accident at Norway High School to help provide alcohol awareness, participated in a U.P. Wide Hat Day along with Michigan Tech University to raise funds for Bay Cliff Health Camp, Winter Fun Day sledding and ice skating parties, the Easter Bunny and Friends deliver treats to all of the elementary students, and sponsor needy families at Christmas just to name a few.
The Norway Youth Advisory Committee (YAC) is an affiliate of the Norway Area Community Foundation and the Dickinson Area Community Foundation. For more information about either of these foundations, go to www.dickinsonareacommunityfoundation.org.
