IRON RIVER - Carol Dallavalle of Iron River, hosted the Northwoods Readers annual book selection luncheon at her lake home on Iron Lake.
Northwoods Readers is an area book club that has been meeting since 1997. The group meets from September to April in the George Young Recreation Center fireplace room. In May of each year they hold a potluck luncheon at a member's home to select the books for the next season.
For the coming 2012-13 season the group chose the following books to read and discuss at their monthly meetings: "The Sun Also Rises" by Ernest Hemmingway; "House of Sand and Fog" by Andre Debus III; "Sarah's Key" by Tatiani de Rosnay; "Ants for Breakfast, Archaeological Adventures among the Kalinga" by James Skibo who will meet with the book club to discuss his book; "Home Front" by Kristin Hannah; "The Buddha In the Attic" by Julie Otsuka; "Warmth of Other Suns, Epic Story of America's Great Migration" by Isabel Wilkerson; and "Spaghetti on Mondays" by Tom Flaminio of Marquette.
In December the group will celebrate Christmas with a contribution to a local charity and try reading a play together. Members are researching possible plays over the summer and will make their final choice this fall.
