HERMANSVILLE - The installation of officers for 2012-13 highlighted the meeting of the Floriano-Stecker Post 340 of Hermansville held at the American Legion Club rooms recently. The meeting was attended by 18 Legionnaires.
George Maciejewski of the Carney-Nadeau American Legion Post 487 and newly elected commander of the 11th District installed the new officers.
The following will serve the Floriano-Stecker Post for 2012-13: James Wash, commander; Joseph Bouchard, adjutant; Ted Gurgall, first vice commander; Don Bird, second vice commander; Dennis Trudell, finance officer, Alex Framarin, chaplain; Gilbert Vandenhouten, sergeant-at-arms; Patches Sullivan, judge advocate; Frank Rodman, service officer and public relations officer and Ernest Dani, historian.
The Hermansville Post meets the second Thursday of every month at the American Legion Club rooms in Hermansville.
Retiring Commander Ted Gurgall conducted the business meeting.
Dennis Trudell, finance officer gave a report on the pancake-sausage breakfast which was a success. He acknowledged the volunteer workers and the ladies auxiliary for their help at the breakfast. Trudell gave the post financial report, the July 4 account, the Christmas fund and the escrow account of the Sons of the American Legion.
Copies of the Memorial Day program for Hermansville and Faithorn were passed around and everyone had an opportunity to look them over and approved same. All veterans were encouraged to participate in both the Hermansville and Faithorn programs.
A donation for the Veterans Administration Voluntary Services at Iron Mountain VA Hospital was approved and sent to Art Mitchell who is the American Legion representative at the VA Hospital.
It was noted that the summer convention of the Upper Peninsula Association of American Legion Posts was held at the White Pine American Legion Post, White Pine on June 8-9.
Mike Dellisse, Menominee County Veterans Service Officer conducted office hours at the club rooms in May and was busy all afternoon. Ella Gurgall of the Ladies Auxiliary furnished and made delicious snacks and coffee for those waiting to see Dellisse.
A work bee was held on May 24 to put up 93 American flags for the Avenue of Flags and markers on the deceased Veterans graves.
Donna Bellefeuil and students from North Central Elementary School saved a large number of "aluminum tabs" for the post. Bellefeuil's tabs came from the Wildwood Restaurant and some from the school children at North Central Elementary School. Bellefeuil is a volunteer worker at the school.
The group discussed the July 4 celebration, the Woodtick Festival and the ticket drawing. The ticket drawing is an annual fund-raiser, culminates on July 4 celebration. The tickets will be mailed to members of the post and those who wish to sell tickets for the post.
Gurgall turned over the gavel to the newly installed commander, James Wash, who concluded the meeting after all the business had been completed. Alex Framarin, chaplain gave the closing prayers. Socializing and snacks, courtesy of Past commander Ted Gurgall were enjoyed by all the members.
