Iron County delegates attend state Republican convention

June 26, 2012
The Daily News

IRON?RIVER - Three delegates appointed to represent Iron County met with other Upper Peninsula delegates during the 2012 Republican State Convention at Cobo Hall in Detroit.

Alan and Nancy Arcand of Iron River and Patricia Ashcraft are the delegates representing Iron County.

Meetings were held during the State Convention to elect national delegates to attend the National Republican Convention in August 2012.

Alan and Nancy Arcand along with Patricia Ashcraft met with delegates from 33 other counties from the entire Upper Peninsula and northern Michigan down through Traverse City to comprise District 1.

County delegates interested in applying for the National Delegate positions were allowed to speak briefly in front of their districts. Each district voted for the national delegates that they felt would best represent the district.

Alan Arcand was one of two national delegates with voting power elected by District 1 to attend the National Republican Convention in Tampa, Fla., this August.

The National Republican Convention is a presidential nominating convention in which the national delegates nominate the official Republican candidate for the presidential election.

Any individuals interested in learning more about the event or those who would like to become a member of the Iron County Republicans can do so on the area delegate's Facebook pages.
