FLORENCE, Wis. - Two Illinois men were injured Friday in a one-vehicle roll over accident in Florence.
The accident occurred at 10:13 a.m. Friday on U.S. 2, about one-tenth of a mile east of the Brule River Bridge.
Florence County Sheriff's Department Chief Deputy David Gribble said Monday that 61-year-old Joseph D. Ruggirello of Oak Park, Ill. was driving east on U.S. 2 when he failed to negotiate a curve in the road.
The vehicle left the roadway and rolled over several times, he added.
Gribble said that Ruggirello and a passenger, 24-year-old Matthew Ruggirello of Oak Park, were transported by Florence Rescue and Beacon Ambulance to Dickinson County Memorial Hospital in Iron Mountain.
They were later transferred to St. Vincent Hospital in Green Bay, Wis.
Gribble said that excessive speed appeared to be a contributing factor in the accident.
The Florence Fire Department, Florence County Highway Department, Michigan State Police, and Twin City Towing assisted at the scene.
