WEST BRANCH - Norway needs a win today to reach the quarterfinals of the Little League 11-year-old state baseball tournament.

After rain washed out Friday's opening game, Norway fell to Taylor Northwest 10-0 on Saturday but bounced back to edge Richmond 7-6 on Sunday.

Norway meets Birmingham this morning to conclude Pool A play, with the top two teams advancing to the quarterfinals Tuesday. Unbeaten Birmingham defeated Taylor 23-2 on Sunday.

In the opener, Norway pitched Hunter Riley, Trey Doda, Anthony Hansen, Landen Kaldor and Ben Snyder against Taylor.

Doda singled twice while David Loomis and Carter Holle reached base on bunts.

Norway snapped a 6-6 tie in the sixth inning to nip Richmond.

Doda and Riley each doubled and singled while Kaldor and Snyder each singled twice.

Hansen started and reached his pitch limit of 85 before giving way to Snyder.

Holle made the defensive play of the game in right field, laying out to catch a line drive and squelch a Richmond threat.

Mike Snyder (manager), Mark Doda and Dan Turini coach the team.
