CRYSTAL FALLS - Local authorities have increased patrols in the area around U.S. Congressman Dan Benishek's residence in Iron County after a surveillance-type video of his home was posted on YouTube.
Sgt. Wade Cross of the Iron County Sheriff's Department confirmed that his department is aware of the situation.
"The sheriff's office's activity is in response to person(s) who are engaged in video taping the Congressman's movements and posting those videos online," he said in a statement. "In cooperation with the United States Capitol Police, the sheriff's office is monitoring the situation, and together are providing an enhanced presence, both overtly and covertly."
According to Raffi Williams, communications director for Dr. Benishek for Congress, there are two videos of the same footage posted on YouTube.
The videos were posted by "MI01RawFootage."
Freshman Congressman Benishek, R-Crystal Falls, is seeking re-election in the November General Election.
"As a Congressional candidate, Dr. Dan (Benishek) is well aware that he will be under increased scrutiny," said Williams. "Politics is a messy game, but this takes it to a whole new level."
