KINGSFORD - A Breitung Township teen is seeking donations to help fund a trip to compete with the UPQHA Youth Team at the 2012 All American Quarter Horse Congress in Columbus, Ohio in October.

Melanie Louys, 15, competed in the congress in 2009 and came home a finalist. To be a finalist, a rider must place in the top 20 of a class, some of which have more than 200 riders.

Louys needs to raise approximately $7,500 to attend this year's congress. She has already started selling Seroogy candy bars and Partylite candles, but she still needs sponsorship from local individuals and businesses.

Donations can be mailed to Louys at N4698 Birch Ridge Road, Iron Mountain, MI, 49801. For more information, call (906) 774-3306 or (906) 396-4148.

Louys is the daughter of Teresa and Rick Louys. She attends Kingsford High School.
