College hoops:MTU to Italy

HOUGHTON - Basketball season begins early this year for the Michigan Tech men's basketball team, as the Huskies are headed to Italy on Wednesday, Aug. 15, for nine days of international competition.

The self-funded trip, which includes only returning players, will give the Huskies the opportunity to see the sights of Rome, Florence and Vatican City. Scheduled opponents include Stella Azzurra beginning Aug. 20, followed by contests against Cirra di Castello and Basket Pamphili.

Michigan Tech finished atop the Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference North Division last season and is bringing back almost all of last year's key contributors. Kingsford standout Jeff Gregory is among the newcomers.
