PEMBINE, Wis. - Alice E. Covioux, 88, of Pembine, Wis., died Sunday, Aug. 5, 2012, at her home.
Alice was born on July 6, 1924, in New York Mills, Minn., the daughter of the late Eino and Tillie (Wirre) Hendrickson. She graduated from New York Mills High School in 1942, and after high school she moved to Chicago for employment.
Alice married Wayne A. Covioux on Dec. 24, 1954, in Manitowoc, Wis. In 1956, they moved to Oshkosh where she assisted Wayne in his optometric practice.
Alice was a member of the Wisconsin Association for Vision Awareness for 42 years. She became an adviser for setting up an extension course for optometric assistants at the vocational school in Sheboygan, Wis.
Alice and Wayne moved to Pembine after retirement. She was an excellent cook and loved entertaining, she loved her friends and church family. Alice liked playing cards, pinochle and cribbage, and enjoyed her cabin by the river.
Alice is survived by her loving husband, Wayne; sisters Bernice Johnson of Ocala, Fla., Betty (Roy) Schurdevin of Fargo, N.D. and Barbara (Jim) Mattfeld Frazee, Minn.; four nephews; eight nieces; and many dear friends.
She was preceded in death by her parents; in-laws; sister, Hazel; and brother, Marshall.
Her family would like to thank Dr. Saigh of Norway, the doctors and nurses and sisters of St. Mary's Hospital in Green Bay, Pastor Gene Wickman of Grace Evangelical Lutheran Church in Pembine, and the many friends and neighbors who helped provide support.
Visitation will be Thursday from 9 a.m. to 11 a.m. at the Grace Evangelical Lutheran Church in Pembine.
Funeral services will be Thursday at 11 a.m. at the church with Pastor Gene Wickman, officiating.
Interment will follow at the Norway Township Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, a memorial has been established in Alice's name.
