Jean Lundin

IRON MOUNTAIN - Jean Fredy Lundin, 84, of Iron Mountain, died at her home on Saturday, Aug. 4, 2012, after a courageous battle with cancer.

She was born Sept. 30, 1927, in Sagola, daughter of the late Herbert and Ethel (Tiege) Atkins. Jean was a lifelong resident of this area and graduated from Channing High School in 1946.

She was a member of Trinity United Methodist Church and a former member of Grace Presbyterian Church in Sagola, where she sang in both choirs totaling more than 50 years. She was named Volunteer of the Year by the Breen Senior Citizen Center. Jean had waitressed for many years at many of the local restaurants and supper clubs. She also volunteered at the Breen Center, the VA hospital, and the old Memorial Hospital.

She was married to Wally O'Connor, who preceded her in death in 1980.

On May 23, 1987, Jean married Arnold Lundin. He preceded her in death on Aug. 28, 1996.

Jean loved to shop and found great pleasure and enjoyment giving gifts to others. She loved playing bingo and cards at the senior centers. With her friends at Hulst Manor, she enjoyed rolling dice, bingo, Wednesday night potluck, watching movies, and just visiting. She traveled to Alaska and Hawaii with her sisters and friends, and gambling trips with the girls. One of her last memorable trips was to Florida where she spent time with her sister and brother.

She is survived by one son, Robert (Janet) Fredy of Iron Mountain; one daughter, Donna (Ken) Klahn of Iron Mountain; one brother, Robert (Nancy) Atkins of Kokomo, Ind.; one sister, Betty Bacon and her husband Jerry Nemec of Green Bay, Wis.; one brother-in-law, Merwin Dashnier; three grandchildren, Bobby (April) Fredy of Scandanavia, Wis., Mark (Claudine) Fredy of Iola, Wis., and Cheryl (Jason) Hubbard of Ishpeming; six great-grandchildren, Jackson, Grant and Bennett Fredy, Gianna and Gwen Fredy, and Hunter Hubbard. She also leaves Marie DeMuri, Mary Beth, Bruce, Emily and Andrew Casanova, who she considered her extended family.

She was preceded in death by two sisters, Lois Exford and Nancy Dashnier.

Friends may call from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. on Wednesday at the Erickson-Rochon & Nash Funeral Home.

Funeral services will be Thursday at 11 a.m. at Trinity United Methodist Church.

Rev. Paul Mallory will officiate.

Pallbearers will be Bobby and Mark Fredy, Bruce and Andrew Casanova, Bob Atkins, Bob Welker, and Rodney Theisen.

Honorary pallbearer will be her grandson-in-law, Jason Hubbard, currently serving in Afghanistan.

Burial will be in Cemetery Park.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Trinity Methodist Church
