IRON MOUNTAIN - The Tour de Dickinson Bike Ride is scheduled to take place on Saturday, Aug. 18, and is being organized and coordinated by the Dickinson County Bike Path Committee.
The six scenic routes/rides start at 8 a.m. at the bottom of Pine Mountain in Iron Mountain.
For the past five years, the event was organized by the Dickinson County Hospital Foundation. But this year, the Dickinson County Bath Path Committee is in charge. The committee is dedicated to creating a countywide bike path system that would be linked together across all of the Dickinson County area.
The highly attended and much anticipated bike ride will require many volunteers, assistance, and sponsors from the community to make this year's event a success. The event requires approximately 75 volunteers in different capacities, organizers said.
The annual event draws bike riders and tourists to the local community from all over the Midwest and many riders schedule their vacations around it. It is anticipated that approximately 500 bicyclists will attend this year's event.
The event is also held in conjunction with the Italian Fest held in downtown Iron Mountain that afternoon. Riders and volunteers are given a bracelet pass for free admission to this popular event.
