Declining enrollment

August 13, 2012
The Daily News

EDITOR:While Iron Mountain public schools may be a good place to have your children attend, they need to look at other reasons as to why they are experiencing declining enrollment.

It is not due to the school having old desks, needing roof repairs, or having pod style teaching but that bullying is a big problem at the elementary grade level and is for the most part allowed and ignored; parents are ignored when they approach the administration and staff about the bullying; and the "bad" kids are pushed off to other schools in the area or just made to suffer more.

Superintendent Jayne and Dean of Students Don Bianco are both great guys and I would love to see Iron Mountain move into the 21st century with their schools but the above issues really need to be looked at as well and maybe staff changes/improvements could be in order along with building improvements before the district is left with a $11 million makeover and no student body.
