Pool:League meetings

IRON MOUNTAIN - Local pool leagues will hold organizational meetings this month. Schedule follows:

Iron Mountain Women's - Tuesday, Aug. 14; 6:30 p.m.; C&R Bar, Aurora.

Wednesday Night Mixed - Wednesday, Aug. 15; 7 p.m., C&R Bar, Aurora.

Kingsford Men's Invitational - Monday, Aug. 27, 7 p.m., Bob's Country Bar.

Youth hockey:Miller camp

IRON MOUNTAIN - Miller Hockey Academy will return to Mountain View Ice Arena for a second year, Dickinson Amateur Hockey Association announced.

Miller Hockey Academy, open to children age 6-18, takes place Friday, Oct. 26, through Sunday, Oct. 28.

Cost of the camp is $200, with the registration deadline Aug. 31. Camp details and registration forms can be found at

Pine Grove golf:'Scotch' Thurs.

IRON MOUNTAIN - Pine Grove Country Club's "Scotch golf" will take place Thursday.

Tee times and dinner reservations should be made with the pro shop.

Oak Crest golf:Three weeks left

NORWAY - Forward Financial Monday Night Golf League shows no changes at the top with three weeks left in the season.

Sam Fredrick-Ryan Allred lead Division One with 33.5 points while Burry Venstra-Phil Neveau top Division Two with 38.5.

Steve Schneibel fired an even par 36 for Division One medalist. Todd Brasure, Tim Krause and Chuck Aichner led Division Two with 42.

Running:M.A.Y. event

IRON MOUNTAIN - Mentor A Youth Walk/Run (M.A.Y. Run) fund-raiser will take place Saturday, Aug. 18, at Lake Antoine Park. Registration begins at 7:30 a.m. Fees for the one mile/two mile and 5k walk/run follow:Pre registration - $10/person

Family of 4 - $25 ($5/person)

Day of the Event - $15/ person

Registration forms are available at or at Anytime Fitness. Registration includes draw-string bag, commemorative pin, Runners World magazine, snacks and beverages.

Flag football:Aug. 21 start

NIAGARA, Wis. - Sam Chartier Flag Football League, open to boys and girls from the surrounding area, begins Tuesday, Aug. 21, and Wednesday, Aug. 22, with sign-up and practice at Niagara's Heights Park.

Boys and girls in grades 2-3 and 4-5-6 are invited, with no fees or pre-registration required. Football appropriate clothing and shoes should be worn for the practices.
