IRON RIVER - Janet M. Brady, 68, of Iron River, died Friday, Aug. 10, 2012, at her home.
She was born July 14, 1944, in Chicago, daughter of the late Raymond and Julia (Lassie) Hoag.
Following her schooling, Jan worked for several years at a mental health practice in Florida. During this time, she continued to take classes from the University of South Florida, eventually earning her doctorate degree in psychology.
Jan married H. N. Brady on Feb. 26, 1978, in Tampa, Fla. They moved to Iron River in 1999 to live on Jan's family farm.
She worked as a private practice mental health counselor for many years in Iron River. She was very good at her job and had a special talent for helping people. She was a wonderful classically trained pianist and played at First Lutheran Church.
Jan enjoyed reading, spending time at the library, feeding deer and birds (especially hummingbirds) at the farm, playing computer games and listening to N.P.R.
She is survived by her husband, H.N. Brady of Iron River; two brothers, Richard (Nancy) Hoag of Tinley Park, Ill. and Raymond (Masako) Hoag of Homestead, Fla.; a niece, Shannon Rivera and her daughter, Violet; and a very special lifetime friend, Marci Vess of Iron River.
Jan was preceded in death by a son, John Posey.
A memorial service will be held on Thursday at 1 p.m. at First Lutheran Church in Iron River. Pastor Bonnie Kinnunen will officiate.
