Volleyball:Season opens
KINGSFORD - The high school volleyball season officially begins Saturday as Iron Mountain, Norway, North Dickinson and Forest Park converge at Kingsford High School for the annual Kingsford Invitational. Action begins at 9 a.m.
West Iron County hosts its own tournament Saturday.
Team-by-team previews for the upcoming campaign will run in The Daily News throughout the next week.
Predators:JV changes
NIAGARA, Wis. - Northern Elite Predators, citing low numbers, have canceled two junior varsity football games with Norway (Aug, 23) and Kingsford (freshmen, Sept. 13).
"At this point, the rest of the schedule remains intact," Niagara athletic director Scott Trevillian said. "It is our goal to move forward with the limited schedule to ensure our players and the players from our opponents schools have every opportunity to participate in football.
"We would like to send our apologies to the schools affected and hope the rest of the schedule remains unchanged."
Oak Crest golf:'Flink' tourney
NORWAY - The Anderson brothers, Dan and Darren, will defend their title this weekend in the Fred Flink Invitational tournament at Oak Crest.
The field of 118 two-man teams also includes 2012 U.P. champion Jim Markell-Mark Clements, Fred- Ted Flink, Chad Tirschel-Larry Kuchinski Jr. and Joey Pontbriand-Mike Peters.
