FLORENCE, Wis. - The Northern Saddle Club is hosting the Northern Highland ride for the third year, Aug. 25-26 on the Halls Lake and Bush Lake Flats Equestrian Trails in Florence County.
The Florence County Forestry and Parks Department and the Northern Saddle Club have been working on developing the trails in this area and welcome horse riding enthusiasts to enjoy the quiet ride and rustic beauty.
Located just off of County C in the central part of Florence County, the Halls Lake and Bush Lake Flat trails are easily accessible to the public free of charge. Camping is permitted at the trailheads.
Trail maps are usually available at the trailheads and may also be viewed and printed at northernsaddleclub.org
This weekend only the Homestead Rifle Range will be closed to rifle activity and used as a start and end point for the endurance race.
Camping will also be permitted at this location. Camping is rustic. Horse water will be proved in camp. Bring a dish to pass for Saturday night potluck. Awards will be on Saturday night and Sunday afternoon after the rides.
Saturday, Aug 25: 50-mile endurance (6 a.m.); 25-mile limited distance (6:30 a.m.); 25-mile competitive (7 a.m.).
Sunday, Aug 26: 25 mile limited distance (7 a.m.); 25-mile competitive (6:30 a.m.); 10-mile novice ride (10 a.m.).
The event is sanctioned by AERC, UMECRA, & DRAW. Pre-ride vet checks begin the evening before and early morning. Rider's meetings are Friday and Saturday evening before rides. Sponsors are required for each minor, including novice ride participants.
If any riders plan to arrive before Friday, Aug. 24, please contact ride management for an alternate camping area.
