ISHPEMING - Westwood, taking three matches with tiebreakers, handed West Iron County its first girls tennis loss, 6-2, of the season Monday.
"This match score doesn't reflect how close the match was," WIC Coach Denise Spelgatti said. "Maddie Waara played a very strong match and Meg Miatech and Kiki Piwarski continued to battle for a big win."
In the match of the day, Westwood's Sarah Massie downed Kylee Erickson 6-3, 1-6, 7-6 (5).
"They pushed each other on every point, and the match easily could have gone the other way," Spelgatti said."
West Iron (3-1) hosts Iron Mountain today.
"Other matches were close and I am proud of the way the girls played," Spelgatti said. Results follow:
