Leaders remain the same after Norway Speedway double points night

August 22, 2012
The Daily News

NORWAY - The results of this past week's Norway Speedway "double points" night had very little impact on the championship point standings.

Pepsi late model's Jay Baumler Jr. and Auto Value super stock's Mark Jenshak maintained their same season point margins over the nearest competitors.

In the Pepsi late model A feature, Gwinn's Mike D'Angelo Jr. displayed some skillful driving in the first three laps of the main event that enabled him to win his first feature at Norway Speedway.

"D'Angelo was flawless in running consistent lap times and dealing with lapped traffic while holding off defending track champion Mike Reichenberger," Dickinson County Racing Association President John Ostermann said.

In the Auto Value Super Stock Division, 30-year racing veteran Al Bilski of Norway held off hard-charging Brett Bray in the feature.

"Al's win delighted the fans," said Ostermann, noting Bray has overtaken Ryan Wender in the championship points.

Country Inn and Suites/Days Inn/Kingsford Dairy Queen sponsored the "double points" night.

This week is the Island Resort & Casino night at Norway Speedway. This is the last regular season night before the Dickinson County Fair.

During the fair, the Upper Peninsula Small Car Championships will be held on Thursday night and the last race of the season will be held on Sunday where the champions will be decided.

NOTES: Kingsford's Mark Miller won the late model B feature for the third time this season ... Greg Haese of Manitowoc and Tom Lindquist battled side by side for eight laps when Haese completed the pass and went on to win the fast dash ... Gladstone's Steve Ives is filling in for his son Jordan, who was sidelined by an injury ... Green Bay's Kyle Rhoades made his first appearance at the Speedway and finished third.
