Pretending we’re free

August 23, 2012
The Daily News

EDITOR:"We have to pass the bill so that you can find out what is in it, away from the fog of controversy." Speaker of the House, Nancy Pelosi (D) 2010

Doesn't anybody get it?

Our rights are gone. We haven't followed the Constitution for decades, yet we rally around the few basic rights we have left as though it's all OK. Wave the flag and pretend we're free.

In some states you'll be arrested for videotaping the police on "duty", even though it is not illegal to do so. Where did this new found power come from? Not from the people. Second Amendment rights are pounded on daily by the left.

Let's look to Utah where a woman was arrested and fined for selling flowers from her yard without a proper permit. In Maryland and Georgia you can't sell lemonade without a vendors permit. The list goes on and on.

Power and corruption is throughout the United States government as high as the Supreme Court, where now, with the recent upholding of the individual mandate on health insurance, apparently we can be fined and taxed for anything the government feels we should be.

What happened to the spirit of 1776? We need to start respecting people's personal liberties even if we don't agree with them. Nobody should be happy being guided through life, on a predetermined path. People shouldn't be afraid of the government, the government should be afraid of the people.

If you don't fight for your rights, they won't exist. Our Constitution doesn't mean a thing if we don't stand up for it.
