Reed Larson (34) ran for three scores.
"Defensively, I thought we did a real nice job," Flivver coach Chris Hofer said. "Offensively, typical first game.
"I thought we were a little sloppy but it a tough night to play, it really was, from the standpoint of humidity. I thought we hung really tough on that."
Larson, who closed the 2011 by barreling through Escanaba for 306 yards and six touchdowns, hammered the Thunderbirds for 156 yards on seven trips and three scores.
Wienke figured in all areas, with a blocked punt to set up the first score, two pass receptions for 63 yards and a pass interception to ignite the Flivvers in the third quarter.
