MARINETTE, Wis. - A female employee of a convenience store in Wausaukee is dead following what is believed to be a shooting inside the store on Sunday afternoon.
Marinette County Sheriff Jerry Sauve reports that at 2:47 p.m. Sunday, Marinette County Dispatch received a call of a shooting at the Citgo Convenience store at 306 Main St. in the village of Wausaukee.
Within one minute, sheriff's deputies were on scene. A 55-year-old man was located just outside the store with an apparent self-inflicted gunshot wound to the chest. He was transported by Wausaukee Rescue Squad to Bay Area Medical Center in Marinette, Wis.
Inside the store, a 51-year-old female employee was found behind the counter. She was pronounced dead from an apparent gunshot wound.
Initial investigation indicates the male subject shot the female victim inside the store and then shot himself. The man and woman previously lived together and there was some history of domestic violence, officials said.
Nobody else was injured as a result of the situation, Sauve said.
Sauve does not feel there is any further danger to the public.
Investigation continues and more information will be released at a later time.
The sheriff's office is being assisted at the scene by the Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources Wardens, Marinette County District Attorney Allen Brey, Wausaukee Rescue Squad, Bay Area Medical Center Paramedics, and Marinette County Coroner George Smith.
