Ramon Rossi

ESCANABA - Ramon (Ray) Edward Rossi, 78, of 6425 Danforth M. 2 Blvd. in Escanaba, passed away on Wednesday Aug. 29, 2012, at his home surrounded by his loving family.

He was born on June 15, 1934, in Norway, the son of Edward and Anna (Hansen) Rossi. Ray attended school in Vulcan, and graduated in 1952. On Dec. 5, 1953, he married the former Nancy Hewlett in Norway, and she preceded him in death on April 9, 2002.

Ray began his employment with Clairmont Transfer Co. and moved his family to Escanaba in March 1965. In 1977, he retired from Clairmont as vice president and began working for Gafner Machine, retiring as president in 1995. Ray then began consulting for AM Express and continued until his death.

Ray enjoyed hunting and spending time at camp with friends and family. Ray and Nancy spent many years traveling to different parts of the world. They enjoyed snowmobiling and motorcycling, and for several years enjoyed their boat, Volare'.

In 1996, Ray and Nancy bought their retirement home on Terra Ceia Bay in Florida and spent seven wonderful years there basking in the sun, boating, tending to their yard, feeding the birds and fishing from the dock. Their five kids and their families spent all their vacations with them and have many beautiful memories.

Ray and Nancy were avid philanthropists, both monetarily and with their time. Ray was a lifetime member of the Escanaba Elks Lodge.

Ray is survived by his three sons: Mark Rossi of Lodi, Calif., Ken Rossi (Noreen) of Slinger Wis., and Steve Rossi of Tampa Fla.; two daughters: Karen Salmon (Perry) of Gladstone and Suzanne Rossi of Escanaba; 10 grandchildren: Nathan Salmon, Cody Salmon, Scott Rossi, Andrew Rossi (Eva), Ryan Rossi (Andrea), Kyle Rossi, Tony Rossi, Jenny Milosch, Robert Henderson, and Joe Henderson; four great-grandchildren: Hannah Rossi, Haley Rossi, Mason Henderson and Ryder Rossi. He is also survived by his brother David Rossi (Pat) of Muncie Ind., five nephews and one niece; and an uncle, James Hansen of Norway.

In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by his beloved wife of 50 years, Nancy and his grandson, Josh Salmon.

Visitation will be from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 1, at the Anderson Funeral Home in Escanaba. Elks services will be conducted at 3 p.m. Saturday at the funeral chapel.

Funeral services celebrating the life of Ramon (Ray) Rossi will be held at 4 p.m. Saturday at the funeral home with Deacon Donald Giesen officiating.

Burial will take place following the funeral services at the Norway Township Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, donations to the Salvation Army are greatly appreciated. Envelopes will be available at the Anderson Funeral Home.
