MARQUETTE - Jane Ann Schneider, 83, of 518 Lost Creek Drive IN Marquette, entered eternal life, Tuesday evening, Aug. 28, 2012, surrounded by her loving family.
Jane was born on July 9, 1929, in Mishawaka, Ind. to loving parents Lyle E. and Geraldine "Peg" (Wisely) Hartman. When Jane was in the seventh grade, her folks moved to Wayne, Mich. where she graduated from Wayne High School in 1946. She was very active in sports and was a cheerleader. Following the war, Jane's family moved back to South Bend, Ind.
Jane was an avid Notre Dame fan attending their football games and strolling the campus in her younger years. Jane loved to dance to the tunes of the Big Band era. Her love for the lake led her and Corky to build their first home on Baldwin Lake in Union, Mich.
Jane worked for the Scamper Corp. in Bristol, Ind. and was involved as a Girl Scout leader, PTA and anything sports related with her sons. During the years on Baldwin Lake, the family would vacation in the Upper Peninsula and in 1969, Jane and Corky packed their belongings and moved to Swan Lake in Crystal Falls. Jane loved her life on Swan Lake where she maintained rental cabins for several years while enjoying all that the outdoors had to offer, along with teaching aerobics and volunteering in the hospice program. In 2004, Jane and Corky moved to Marquette to be near their sons and families. Her family meant a great deal to her and she was so proud of them.
Jane married the love of her life, Charles "Corky" Schneider of Butler, Pa., on June 26, 1948. They were blessed with two sons, Jack (Gail) and Gary (Jackie). Jane was so pleased to have Jackie and Gail as daughter-in-laws. Three grandchildren, Jeremy (Sara), Lindsay and Nick, all of Marquette, and four great-grandchildren, Troy, Morgan, Mira and Lincoln. She leaves her loving sister, Patty (Barney) McRae of South Bend; her caring and fun-loving sister-in-law, Betsy Crotty of Granger, Ind.; brother-in-law, Rex Schneider of Gobles, Mich.; and six wonderful nieces, Jo, Teri, Boni, Connie, Kelly and Leslie, that she loved as her daughters.
