KINGSFORD - Peter James Balzola, 52, of Kingsford, passed away on Wednesday, Aug. 29, 2012, at Dickinson County Hospital surrounded by family.
He was born on Feb. 4, 1960, in Iron Mountain, beloved son of Connie (Martin) and the late James Balzola. He attended the Kingsford schools, graduating from Kingsford High School in 1978. He went on to receive his bachelor's degree in teaching from Northern Michigan University. He was a lifelong resident of the area.
Peter worked as a millwright at the Champion Mill for many years. He was a member of the American Martyrs Catholic Church. He was an avid sports fan, who grew up playing baseball, football and golf. He loved following the Detroit Lions and the Fighting Irish of Notre Dame.
Peter now rests in the ultimate peace that can only be found with Jesus.
Peter is survived by his mother, Connie Balzola of Kingsford; sons, Justin (Ryann) Balzola of Milwaukee, and Jim and Tony Balzola at home, and their mother, Colleen Balzola of Iron Mountain; grandson, Brody Balzola; brother, Paul (Kelley) Balzola, and their children Nick, Mike, Samantha, and John, all of Marinette; and a sister, Patricia Moore of Phoenix, Ariz. He is further survived by many loving aunts, uncles, cousins, and caring friends.
Visitation will be Sunday from 3 p.m. to 6 p.m. at Kingsford Funeral Home.
The funeral Mass will be Monday at 10 a.m. at the American Martyrs Catholic Church. Fr. Joseph Gouin will offer the Mass of Christian Burial.
Burial will be in Iron Mountain Cemetery Park.
