Watch for the children

August 31, 2012
The Daily News

I hope everyone is aware that Iron Mountain public school will be starting on Sept. 4th. I would like for all parents to remind their children to be aware when they approach any corner, to stop and look four ways for traffic. Also for those of you hurrying to work, please slow down and watch for the children.

On my corner, Carpenter Avenue and Hughitt Street where I am the crossing guard, they should remain waiting until I have stopped the traffic before proceeding out into the street. Virtually everyone of the kids obey this rule. However, sometimes when they are running late they try to cross without waiting for me to stop the traffic. This usually brings about three or four close encounters each seasons.

So please take the time to remind your kids.

I would be remiss by not mentioning you folks for the wonderful treats that I receive throughout the school year.

It's been my privilege to be your crossing guard on Carpenter Avenue and Hughitt Street, and I want to say that this is the best job I've ever had.

I hope I will be able to do this for many years to come and I look forward to seeing all of you.

Waving and smiling at you as you drive by is specially wonderful and if I can get you to smile, it makes my day.
