WILSON - Kingsford's Daniel Kulas, a student at Iron Mountain, topped the field at the North Central All-Class Invitational here Wednesday.

Kulas clocked a time of 17:34 and was followed by Stephenson's Connor Cappaert (17:48) and Munising's Brett Hannah (17:58).

"I started getting some separation at Mile 2, which I think was little bit of a confidence boost," said Kulas. "I got off to a good start and attacked the hills. The weather was a lot nicer than at Norway (where temperatures were in the 80s). It was cloudy and we had a nice wind, which helped cool us off."

Kulas' finish lifted the Flivvers to second overall with 52 points. Menominee was first (42) and Munising third (87). Nate Carey added a seventh for Kingsford. Florence's Dan Jones took ninth.

Norway, with a 10th-place effort from Steve Raboin, finished fourth.

Florence's Jenny Goeman broke up a pack of Menominee runners among the top five in the girls race, finishing fourth with a time of 22:30.

"I think I got dehydrated at Norway," said Goeman, who had a sideache midway through that race on Aug. 27. "Today, I felt good the whole time. I think getting a meet in before this and having people in front of me helped me push a lot harder."

Kingsford finished the girls race in fourth behind Menominee, Gladstone and Munising. Norway was fifth, and Florence seventh.
