Flivvers, Trojans top first poll

MARQUETTE - Kingsford and Forest Park top the football season's first poll of the U.P. Sportswriters and Sportscasters Association.

The Flivvers (3-0 record) lead the "Big Five" or Class A-B-C with three first-place votes and 22 poll points. Kingsford is trailed by Menominee (3-0), 18; Ishpeming (2-0), 17; Marquette (3-0), 12, and Negaunee (3-0), six.

In the "Little Five" or Class D rankings, Forest Park (3-0) shows two first-place ballots and 22 points; Saint Ignace (3-0), two and 20; North Dickinson (3-0), one and 18, and L'Anse (3-0), eight. Norway, Stephenson and Pickford are tied for fifth, with honorable mention to Lake Linden.

In eight-man football, Rapid River (3-0) tallied five first-place votes and 25 poll points, and Cedarville (3-0) had 20.
