NIAGARA, Wis.- Donald D. Stapleton, 85, of Niagara, Wis. and formerly of Kingsford, died Monday, Sept. 10, 2012, at Dickinson County Memorial Hospital.
He was born on June 20, 1927, in Lyons, Kan., the son of the late Alva and Audrey (Silverhill) Stapleton.
Donald was an aviation field supervisor for the U.S. Air Force. He served in the Far East and the Pacific, retiring on March 1, 1968. Don moved to Kingsford, following his retirement.
He was a member of the American Legion Uren-Cooper- Johnson Post 50 and American Martyrs Catholic Church.
He married Charmaine Weackler on June 18, 1966, and she preceded him in death on Nov. 13, 1997.
Don is survived by two daughters Diane (Gary) Johnson of Spangle, Wash. and Debra Stapleton of Spokane, Wash.; three grandchildren Erica Johnson, Lindsey Johnson, and Courteney Stapleton; two great grandchildren Jamie Glorfield and Brendon Bliss; and one sister-in-law Eunice (Ed) Erickson.
He was preceded in death by one sister, Wynonna Livingston.
Visitation will be Saturday from 9 a.m. to 10:30 a.m. at the Kingsford Funeral Home.
Funeral services will be Saturday at 11 a.m. at American Martyrs Catholic Church. Father Joseph Gouin will officiate the Mass of Christian Burial.
Burial will be in the Foster City Cemetery.
