The Daily News

MARQUETTE - The body found floating in the Wetmore Pond by hikers on Thursday evening has been identified as Amy Luella Janson, 25, of Marquette.

Janson was reported missing by family members earlier this year.

Michigan State Police Negaunee Post initiated an investigation for a reported missing person in May of this year.

At that time, a backpack, belonging to the Marquette woman, was located in the Wetmore Pond near the shoreline.

Police responded and searched the area with K-9's and divers.

Due to the depth of the silt on the lake bottom and lack of visibility, divers were not able to effectively search and clear the pond.

During the evening hours on Thursday, hikers called police and reported a body was floating in the Wetmore Pond.

Troopers from the Michigan State Police Negaunee Post responded and confirmed the reports.

Marquette County Sheriff's Department personnel responded and assisted with recovery of the victim.

The deceased victim was transported to Marquette General Hospital where an autopsy was conducted on Friday.

Using dental records comparison, the victim was positively identified as Amy Luella Janson.

Although this incident remains under investigation by the Negaunee Post, foul play is not suspected.

Assisting at the scene were NMU PUblic Safety, Marquette County Sheriff's Department and Marquette Township Fire Department.
