GREEN BAY, Wis. - A Niagara, Wis. man has been sentenced to serve 10 years in federal prison for possessing and distributing child pornography.
Eric Rene Casillas, 39, was sentenced Monday in the U.S. District Court of the Eastern District of Wisconsin in Green Bay.
Officials from the court clerk's office confirmed that Casillas will serve 120 months in federal prison followed by seven years of supervised release for one count of possession and distribution of child pornography.
An additional charge of possession of child pornography was dismissed as part of a plea deal, officials added.
Casillas was originally charged in Marinette County Court in February with felony counts of possession of child pornography and sexual assault of a child-second degree. Those counts were dismissed when Casillas was charged in federal court in April.
The charges stem from a Feb. 16 raid at Casillas' home in Niagara.
According to a press release from Wisconsin Attorney General J.B. Van Hollen, officials with the Wisconsin Department of Justice, Marinette County Sheriff's Office, and Niagara Police Department responded to Casillas' home after receiving a tip.
Officials discovered child pornography while they were searching three computers, two MP3 players, and two cell phones.
Van Hollen said that Casillas then admitted that he had been intentionally downloading and viewing child pornography for about a year.
