IRON MOUNTAIN - Robert "Bob" Louis Pedo, 79, of Iron Mountain, passed away Monday, Sept. 24, 2012, at his home.
He was born to the late Louis and Rose (Bruno) Pedo on Sept. 30, 1932, in Iron Mountain. Bob graduated from Iron Mountain High School in 1951.
He served in the United States Coast Guard for two years and received a bachelor's degree in music education from Northern Michigan University in 1958.
He married the late Germaine (Bruso) Pedo in 1957.
Bob taught more than 7,000 students as an elementary and high school music teacher at Pembine and Breitung Township Public Schools for 30 years until his retirement in 1989.
He was blessed with God-given musical talent and a beautiful voice, singing for many years at local and regional events, often with his dear friend, John Calo.
As a young man he auditioned for the Arthur Godfrey show in New York and was voted "best pop" singer in a Chicago Music Festival. His specialty was Italian music and he sang in Festa Italiana in Milwaukee as part of the Ciao Bella Trio. Bob was an active member of the Dickinson County Community Chorus and performed for many civic groups.
He was also a phenomenal amateur golfer and a four-time Club Champion at Pine Grove Country Club and four-time Dickinson County Champion. In more recent years, he spent his summer days golfing at Timberstone and was famously known for being able to "beat his age."
Bob was an active member in many churches throughout the years, namely the Covenant Church in Norway and Immanuel Baptist Church in Kingsford, and hosted many bible studies at his home.
He touched the heart of many he loved with his inspirational faith in God. Bob enjoyed watching the Detroit Tigers and football, playing golf, making people laugh, and most of all spending time with his family.
He is survived by four children, Daniel Pedo, Steve (Hien) Pedo, Gary Pedo, all of Iron Mountain, and Michael (Yuseon) Pedo of West Orange, N.J.; seven grandchildren, Kristen (Brian) Chapman, Nicholas Pedo, Joseph Pedo, Benjamin Pedo, Rebekah Pedo, Michelle Pedo, and David Pedo; three brothers and a sister, Donald (Rose Marie) Pedo, Roger Pedo, Jerry (Janice) Pedo, and Rachel Struck; and several nieces and nephews including Terese (John) Fortier and Rosalie (Doug) Bluekamp of Iron Mountain.
The visitation will be held Thursday from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. at Jacobs Funeral Home in Iron Mountain.
The funeral service will be held Friday at 11 a.m. at the Evangelical Covenant Church in Norway. Rev. James Danielson will officiate.
Burial will be in Norway Township Cemetery in Norway.
