KINGSFORD - Kingsford staved off a Marquette comeback to post a 21-14 Great Northern Conference football decision Friday at Flivver Field.
The Flivvers built a seemingly comfortable 21-0 lead after three quarters of the homecoming test. The Redmen took charge in the final period, scoring twice and missing out on another golden opportunity.
"Case in point, when you've got a chance to get off the field, you have to get off the field," Kingsford Coach Chris Hofer said of his defense. "You can't be having dumb penalties and missed tackles where they can extend drives.
"We should have been off the field a bunch of times at the end and we just let them back on the field."
Kingsford was flagged seven times for 75 yards in the game, including two personal fouls that kept Marquette drives alive.
