Norway's one-man team has moved on from Wisconsin-Green Bay to coach of De Pere (Wis.) High School's girls swimming and diving team.

Dan Lindstrom, who dominated U.P. swimming as the sole member of Norway's team, competed at UWGB and assisted the De Pere squad. He's now in charge of the program.

"They're a fun group, but they know that when they put their head down and really work for something they can get some pretty good results," Lindstrom, a first-year head coach, told the De Pere Journal.

The son of Mary and Jim Lindstrom has delegated plenty of responsibility to four senior team captains.

"They're the first point of contact for any issues amongst the team," Lindstrom said. "They handle the service-learning projects and communication with the booster club and fund-raising and things like that."

Lindstrom has a good explanation for giving the seniors a major role.

"It gives the (other) girls (on the team) direction for who do I go to for help before it comes to me," Lindstrom said. "And, I wanted those (selected) girls to get something out of being a captain versus just a title. I wanted something where they could gain some experience and get something out of that role."

Lindstrom answers to De Pere athletic director and Norway grad Jeff Byczek.

"He's doing extremely well," Byczek said. "I think he might be a harder worker than (former Norway football coach) Bob Giannunzio."

That alone says plenty about De Pere's new swim coach ...
