North Dickinson tops football poll

MARQUETTE - North Dickinson leads the "Little Five" of the U.P. Sportswriters and Sportscasters Association high school football poll.

Coach Joe Reddinger's undefeated Nordics (6-0), who dropped Forest Park from the unbeaten ranks last week, claimed three first-place votes and 23 poll points.

In the "Big Five", No. 1 Ishpeming (6-0) tallied four first-place votes and 23 poll points. Runner-up Kingsford (5-1) had a first-place vote with 21 poll points.

Complete poll follows (first-place votes in parentheses):

BIG FIVE (Class A-B-C)

1. Ishpeming (4), 6-0 record, 23 poll points; 2. Kingsford (1), 5-1, 21; 3. Menominee, 5-1, 15; 4. Negaunee 6-0, 11; 5. Marquette 4-2, 4.

OTHER: Iron Mountain 4-2, 1.

LITTLE FIVE (Class D)

1. North Dickinson (3), 6-0, 23; 2. St. Ignace (2), 6-0, 22; 3. L'Anse 6-0, 13; 4. Forest Park 5-1, 12; 5. Pickford 5-1, 3.

OTHER: Stephenson 4-2, 2.
