BANAT - Norway's cross country team produced a sweep at the Carney-Nadeau Invite here Saturday.

The Knights girls collected 48 points, topping Stephenson (54) and the host Wolves (62).

The Norway boys, placing four in the top eight, also won with 37 points. They were followed by Stephenson 38 and Carney 86.

"That pack of four really helped our boys," said Norway coach Rose Zygiel. "Stephenson has a very good team. It was a good battle between us. The girls' meet was good, too. Our girls ran well and Stephenson is coming along nicely."

Stephenson sophomore Connor Cappaert cruised to victory on the Dale Fountain Memorial course, covering the 3.1 miles in 17 minutes, 18 seconds on this chilly, windy and blustery day.

"This was another good tester for the GNC (Great Northern Conference) meet and U.P. (Division 2) Finals," said Cappaert. "I'm really looking forward to the GNCs with (Escanaba's) Andrew Stenberg, (Kingsford's) Dan Kulas and (Esky's) Eric Cousineau. The U.P. Finals are also going to be fun with Hancock and Norway. This has been a good season for me and our team."

Carney's Dionte Blahnik was runner-up (17:46), followed Stephenson's Ken Truitt (18:17) and Norway's Mike Zygiel (18:23).

Lena-Marinette St. Thomas Aquinas senior Emily Ellman retained her title in 19:39, followed by Stephenson's Caitlyn Havelka (22:31) and Norway's Alexis Kallenbach (22:40).
