NIAGARA, Wis. - Maryellen Wagener's 27 kills, Shelby Borchardt's 34 digs and Abbey Bagnieschi's 26 assists powered the Badgers past Gresham Community 25-11, 25-9, 25-14 in the WIAA Division 4 volleyball regional opener Tuesday.
"Like the rest of the team, Maryellen doesn't want the season to end, and she's playing like it," Lady Badgers coach Carol St. Arnauld said. "Sometimes you play down ot the level of your competition, but our girls stepped up and played really well last night - played like we are capable of playing."
The fourth-seeded Badgers host No. 5 Suring on Thursday. The Eagles ousted No. 12 Goodman 3-1 (25-12, 25-18, 21-25, 26-24). Rachel Stankevich led Goodman with eight kills, and Desiree Hoffmann added 12 digs in that match.

"We've got a little chip on our shoulders," St. Arnauld said. Hopefully we can keep playing really well.
Niagara-Suring winner moves on to another regional match Saturday, meeting the winner of top-seeded Wabeno and No. 9 Bowler.
"You've got to beat the best to be the best," St. Arnauld said.
