CRYSTAL FALLS - Lemie Marlene Anderson, 79, joined her Savior on Sunday, Oct. 21, 2012, at the Iron County Medical Care Facility in Crystal Falls.
She was born May 18, 1933, in Otter Tail County, Minn., daughter of the late Temet and Mamie (Anderson) Pikkarainen. Lemie's mother passed away in 1937, which resulted in placement of Lemie and some of her siblings in the Owatonna Minnesota State Orphanage. She was adopted at age five by two loving Christian parents, Victor and Ruth (Sjoblom) Johnson. Lemie was raised in Two Harbors, Minn., where she became an active member of 4-H and her church.
After graduation from Two Harbors High School in 1951, Lemie met Oliver Anderson, a dairy farmer from Michigan. They were married on Nov. 17, 1951. They moved to Crystal Falls, where they owned and operated a dairy farm until retirement.
Shortly after their marriage, Lemie, with her adoptive parents' blessings, began to search for her birth family. She eventually was successful in locating all of her surviving siblings, which brought great joy.
Lemie was an active member of Faith Baptist Church, (the little stone church) in Crystal Falls and later became a member of Faith Fellowship Church. Her challenging health problems prevented her from attending Worship Service as often as she would have preferred. She took comfort, however, in worshipping and praising her Lord in word and song on a daily basis.
She was proud of her Finnish heritage and exhibited the spirit of SISU (inner strength, perseverance, and determination) in her daily life. Family was especially important to Lemie and she cherished spending quality time with them. She enjoyed listening to Forest Park Trojans sports, cooking, gardening, and singing and listening to Christian music.
Lemie is survived by her children, Kathy (Ray) Guzowski of Fenton, Mich., John (Lorna) Anderson and Robert Anderson, both of Crystal Falls, and Marla (Mark) Rupp of New Brighton, Minn.; one sister, Linda Scheuring of Gilbert, Minn.; grandchildren, Adelle (Jim) Ashcraft, John Anderson, John and Kaitlin Guzowski, Christopher, Hannah, Jennifer, and Emily Rupp, Christy (Nathan) Lung, Shawn (Jen) Anderson, Jesse (Miranda) Anderson, and Angie Kimbole; 11 great-grandchildren; and several nieces, nephews, great-nieces, great-nephews, cousins, and friends.
In addition to her husband, Lemie was preceded in death by her birth and adoptive parents; sisters, Leona Koons and Selina Pikkaraine; brothers, Alex, Otto, Leo, Tanie and Leslie Pikkaraine; half-brothers, Bror, Fride, and Holger Jansson; and one great-granddaughter, Alicia Anderson.
