Pearl Schinderle

IRON MOUNTAIN - Pearl Mary Schinderle, 82, of Iron Mountain, passed away peacefully on Saturday, Oct, 20, 2012, at the Golden Living Center in Florence Wis.

She was born on March 24, 1930, in Oconto Falls, Wis., daughter of the late Peter and Mary (Greenwood) Hendricks. In 1933, her family moved to Iron Mountain where she attended the Iron Mountain Public Schools.

On Aug. 21, 1946, she married Louis Schinderle, and they spent 52 wonderful years together. He preceded her in death in 1998. Pearl and Louis had briefly lived in Detroit and Milwaukee before returning to their home in Iron Mountain.

Pearl was passionate about children and ran "Dawn's Day Care" in her home for 14 years, then later transitioned their home into foster care for children and their families for the state of Michigan. Pearl and Louis attended the very first training session for foster care by the state of Michigan, and became leaders in teaching other foster parenting groups throughout the state.

They had hosted more than 200 children and their families in the 25 years of service to foster parenting. They also served eight years as vice presidents for the Foster Parents Association.

Pearl was very loving and sociable, she enjoyed traveling with family and friends on vacations and spending time with her grandchildren, Chelsea and Rod. She was also a great coordinator running the bingo bus tours for a few years. She loved to cook and continued to play bingo and cards at Hulce Manor in the activity room with a very special group of friends, Barbara Chounard, Marge Hosking, Dorothy Spencer, Annie Brouillire, Sandy Gomez, and Cindy Steele, you will never be forgotten.

Pearl is survived by a son, Dale (Tina) Schinderle, of Neenah, Wis.; grandchildren, Chelsea and Roderick McLeod of Detroit; sister in-law, Betty Van Erman of Sheboygan, Wis.; and special foster children, Karen and Mona Sparks of Milwaukee.

She was preceded in death by her daughter, Dawnene McLeod; brothers, Donald and Lyle Hendricks; and foster daughter, Kathy Sparks.

A very sincere thank you to Dr. Ziemba, Joan and Brian Lehto, Chelsea and Roderick for all of your care and compassion, Pearl has been very blessed.

Visitation will be Friday from 9 a.m. to 11 a.m. at the Erickson-Rochon & Nash Funeral Home in Iron Mountain.

The funeral service will follow at 11 a.m. at the funeral home. Rev. Michael March will officiate.

Burial will be in the Iron Mountain Cemetery Park.

In lieu of flowers, a memorial will be established in her memory.
