IRON RIVER - Calvin J. Vezzetti, 83, of Roseburg, Ore., formerly of Iron River, passed away on Sunday, Oct. 21, 2012.
Calvin was born Oct. 29, 1928, in Iron River, the son of the late Joseph and Myrtle (Lundin) Vezzetti. He attended the Iron River schools and graduated in 1946. He joined the Marine Corp Air Force in 1946, and was stationed at Cherry Point, N.C.
Calvin was first employed at Carlson-Vezzetti Motors in Iron River for seven years, and then began a 32-year career as a mechanical foreman for the Hanna Mining Co. with positions in Michigan, Missouri, and finally in Oregon. He retired in 1987.
Calvin married Elayne Bartczak on Feb. 12, 1949, at St. Mary Catholic Church in Gaastra. The couple celebrated their 63rd wedding anniversary this year.
Calvin and Elayne lived in Roseburg, Ore., for the past 31 years. Some of Calvin's interests included fishing (especially on the Paint River in Michigan), building furniture and other woodworking projects, and working in the yard. While they lived in Iron River, Calvin was a partner in the Lakeland Underwater Salvage Co. SCUBA search and rescue team.
He is survived by his wife, Elayne Vezzetti of Roseburg; son, David (Carol) Vezzetti of Arnold, Mo.; daughters, Angela (Rick) Peacor of Eugene, Ore. and Judi (Tom) Crouch of St. Louis, Mo.; sisters, Carol Vezzetti of Silver Springs, Md. and Sally Maki of Appleton, Wis.; three granddaughters, Erin Stout, Emily Vezzetti, and Helena Peacor; two great-grandchildren, Dakota and Canyon.
He was preceded in death by his son, Curtis Vezzetti.
Visitation will be Friday, Nov. 2, from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. at the Jacobs Funeral Home of Iron River.
Funeral services will be Saturday, Nov. 3, at 11 a.m. at the First Lutheran Church of Iron River with Rev. Bonny Kinnunen to officiate.
Interment will be in Resthaven Cemetery in Iron River.
