NEGAUNEE - A Gwinn man was arrested Monday for a hit and run causing injury accident in Sawyer.
The incident occurred at about 8 p.m. in the parking lot of the Shoppette Store.
Troopers from the Negaunee post of the Michigan State Police said that a 35-year-old Gwinn man was operating a 2005 Chevrolet Cavalier when he struck 27-year-old Elizabeth Kohtala of Gwinn.
"The incident stemmed from a disturbance in the parking lot involving the suspect," said troopers. "Kohtala was an innocent bystander."
Troopers said that the suspect fled the scene, but was soon located in Forsyth Township.
He was arrested for operating while intoxicated, leaving the scene of a personal injury accident, and driving with a suspended license. He is being lodged at the Marquette County Jail pending arraignment later today.
Troopers said that Kohtala was transported by West Branch-Skandia EMS to Marquette General Hospital, where she was treated and released.
Assisting at the scene were the Forsyth Township Police Department and the Marquette County Sheriff's Department.
