CRYSTAL FALLS - Two Baraga County teenagers have been charged in Iron County with felonies stemming from a Sunday car chase that spanned four counties.
Shad Kenneth Bryan, 17, of Baraga and Devin Charles Curtis, 17, of L'Anse each face one felony count of unlawful driving away of a motor vehicle and one felony count of fleeing a police officer-third degree-vehicle code.
If convicted on both counts, each defendant could spend up to 10 years in prison.
Both Bryan and Curtis are scheduled for preliminary examinations in Iron County Trial Court on Nov. 13.
According to troopers from the Iron Mountain post of the Michigan State Police, Bryan and Curtis stole a 2011 Subaru Outback from Angeli's Central Market in Iron River on Sunday at about 9 p.m.
Troopers said that they located the vehicle traveling north on U.S. 141 in Iron County's Hematite Township. When they attempted a traffic stop, the vehicle kept going, troopers added.
The suspects then led law enforcement officials on 65-mile chase from northbound U.S. 141 in Iron and Baraga counties, to westbound M-28 in Baraga, Houghton, and Ontonagon counties, to northbound M-45 in Ontonagon County.
Troopers said that the driver lost control of the vehicle on M-45 near Gauthier Road in Ontonagon County. The teens then fled the scene on foot, but were apprehended Monday morning, troopers added.
