CRYSTAL FALLS - Forest Park and Ewen-Trout Creek will square off tonight for the Class D District 127 volleyball championship at Eddie Chambers Gymnasium.
In semifinal sweeps Wednesday, Forest Park downed Bessemer 25-11, 25-14, 25-19 and Ewen-Trout Creek dispatched Watersmeet 25-18, 25-17, 25-21.
"Our girls were fired up from start to finish," Trojans coach Kim Bjork said. "We were aggressive the entire match."
Forest Park's Lexi Gussert posted 16 kills and Mindy DeNell had 10. Gina Graff produced 28 digs while Maria Stankewicz notched 27 assists.
"Gina Graff made some awesome plays in the back row," Bjork said. "Lexi Gussert and Mindy DeNell did a nice job at the net. We had girls off the bench contribute.
"Maria Stankewicz did a great job setting. She has really been elevating her game and as a freshman she shows leadership skills most girls don't have even at a senior level."
Forest Park (28-3-3) and ETC will meet at 6 (Central time) tonight. Winner advances to Kingsford for the regional tourney.
"The sky is the limit with the potential of this team," Bjork said. "Hopefully, we continue the climb."
