CRYSTAL FALLS - A former Alpha clerk has been arrested on an eight-count felony warrant alleging that he embezzled money from the village.
The 34-year-old man's name is being withheld pending arraignment, which is scheduled for Nov. 13 in Iron County Trial Court.
Deputies from the Iron County Sheriff's Department said that they have been investigating the case for the past two and a half months.
Investigation led deputies to believe that the suspect embezzled money from the village through forgery and uttering and publishing while he was employed as the village clerk.
Deputies said that the alleged incidents occurred between March 2012 and August 2012.
The suspect is currently free on a $25,000 personal recognizance bond, deputies added.
This is not the first instance of reported embezzlement from the village of Alpha.
In August 2010, another former Alpha clerk, Tommie McCarthy, was sentenced to serve a minimum of one year and one day in prison for one felony count of embezzlement-between $50,000 and $100,000, one felony count of embezzlement by a public officer, and one high court misdemeanor count of public money-safe keeping.
