HOUGHTON LAKE - Kingsford's volleyball postseason hit a roadblock against Ogemaw Heights, as the Flivvers fell 25-17, 25-20, 25-21 in a Class B regional semifinal here Tuesday evening.
Coach Mandie Meyer's Flivvers were led by Margo Wittenbach's 12 kills. Carlee Benzie and Andrea Roell each contributed six kills. Marissa Menghini led Kingsford with six digs, and Brooke Sanford totaled 23 assists.
Kennedy Beechum led Ogemaw Heights with 14 kills and she also finished with 16 digs. Mary VanKronenberger also had 16 digs for Ogemaw Heights and she led with 23 assists. Chandler Diehl added eight digs for Ogemaw Heights.
"We started out slowly in the first game and dug ourselves into a hole," Ogemaw Heights head coach Diane Gillette told www.mlive.com. "Our girls were able to adjust and kept pounding away. Kennedy and Mary both did a real nice job tonight, and overall it was a total team effort."
The Flivvers, district champions for the first time since 2007, went undefeated in Great Northern Conference play this season and received several conference honors.
Meyers was named Coach of the Year, and Benzie was selected as the league's Player of the Year.
Sanford landed on the league's second team.
